Musician Spotlight: Ed Sheeran

Do you recognize the song titles “Shape of you” or “Castle on the hill”? If so, it is because you are already a fan of Edward Christopher Sheeran, most commonly known as Ed Sheeran, or because you are a music lover.

If you are not still in the loop, let me tell you that Ed Sheeran is one of the best singers of the year being the first artist to have taken the top two UK chart positions with new songs (‘Shape of you’ and ‘Castle on the hill’) on 13th January. He also achieved the fastest selling album by a male solo artist in the UK and the third fastest in UK chart history.

Sheeran was born in Suffolk, England in 1991. He started recording music in 2004 and released his first collection of work, entitled Spinning Man. In 2009, he began studying music at the Academy of Contemporary Music (ACM) in Surrey, although it is not clear how long he remained at the college. From Suffolk to London, and then to Los Angeles, Sheeran auditioned for multiple TV series, recorded several collaborations with other singers and grew his fan base by being seen by more and more people on Youtube.com.

His debut single, “The A Team”, was released as a digital download in the UK in 2011 and entered the UK Single Chart at number three, becoming a top hit in several countries such as Australia, Germany, Ireland, Japan, Luxembourg, and many more.

Working along Taylor Swift and One Direction, Sheeran has become a superstar in the pop music scene. His music has been recognized around the world, winning him multiple prizes like the BRIT awards (British Breakthrough Act / British Solo Male Artist (2012), Best male Solo artist / Album of the year (2015)), Grammy Awards (Song of the year / Best pop solo performance (2016)), MTV Europe Music Awards (Best live Act / Best World Stage Performance (2015)) and many more.
